281 Love Lessons

Sometimes love is a little rough around the edges.
Sometimes love turns us upside down.
Finding LOVE is always worth the search.
Remember to look for love daily, to appreciate what you love daily, and to TELL the people you love that you love them (even if it isn't in words).
Happy Love Thursday!

273 Love in the Street

I am not sure what this is, probably gum. I came across this little bit of street art while walking Katie to her friends house. Thank goodness for camera phones (and also, I apologize for the pic from my camera phone). My neighbors think I am weird enough without hauling my camera out to take pictures of a blob of gum in the street. Well, most of my neighbors. I do have one neighbor that would probably grab her camera and come out to see what I am taking pictures of ... and take pics of me taking pictures of the street and laugh her butt off at me for years. Did I say neighbor? What I meant to say is friend! Because who doesn't want to be friends with the girl who is just as weird as she is?! Seriously, how often do we come across people who share our passion? I am lucky enough to have one within a camera toss from my house. (my heart hurts a little thinking about throwing a camera)
So, Candy ... this blob of gum in our street is for you. A girl after my own heart.
No no ... the blob on the left!
The blob on the right confuses me. Sometimes I think, stork delivering a baby. Sometimes it looks like the illustrations of the Emperor in Mulan (or that type look) - beard blowing in the wind. Pelican diving for fish? Santa Claus?
But that blob on the left ... definitely a HEART!
Happy Love Thursday y'all! Visit Chookooloonks for more Love Thursday .... ummm, love.

270 Love Thursday - Hearts of Gold

I forgot to ask Mom what these flowers are called, but I found this week's Love Thursday shot on my Mom's carport. The buds are perfect little hearts, filled with gold (awwwww). My trip to Atlanta was filled with love, and with many images of love. I am well stocked for the next few weeks with more being added all the time. Remember to look around you daily, there are little reminders of love everywhere, and they don't even have to be heart-shaped (anything chocolate usually works). Do you have a picture to share, or a story, or a favorite song? I would love to hear about it, and so would Chookooloonks! Check out the other Love Thursday participants in the comments section.
edited to add : Mom says this is an Angel Wing Begonia :)

173 Peace and Happiness

Karen Walrond's (Chookooloonks) post today was called:

One of her tips was "Grab your camera or camera phone and take a photograph of something pretty."

So, I DID!

Thought I would share with all of you as well :)
She cross-posted this article on Shutter Sisters as well!

171 Recommitment

Lately, I have allowed myself to focus on the bad things. I have let all the little things get to me, just needling away at my happiness. I refuse to do it anymore. I will be happy in MY life. I will be happy with it, not as it exists now, but as it shall exist when I fully embrace it. I will look for LOVE and BEAUTY in my surroundings, in my family. I will pull my friends closer instead of pushing them away. I will laugh and joke, not with derision but with JOY! I will make my world beautiful. When I allow myself to let the petty, trivial problems just float on by. When I don't let the more serious problems sink into my heart, to fester and explode. When I allow myself to be MYSELF!

I am not perfect. I have many many MANY flaws. But, I also have redeeming traits. Surely I do. I will nurture those abilities that make me happy. I will make my house a HOME filled with love and laughter. I will be a person that I can love.
Speaking of love. I have not posted a Love Thursday pic in awhile, so here is the most fitting. There has to be some cliche thing I could say about "cracks that make the heart stronger" or blah blah blah. Mainly, I just love the pic ...

130 Spreading the Happiness

A challenge to blog what is making you happy right now from Chookooloonk!
excerpt from Chookooloonks:
Last week I was in the car listening to NPR, and heard a piece on a new study that seems to indicate that happiness is contagious:

A new study by researchers at Harvard University and the University of California, San Diego documents how happiness spreads through social networks.

According to the study, if you're happy, your friends who live nearby have a 25% higher chance of being happy. And your next-door neighbour? 30%.

What is making me happy right now?

The smell of coffee. But even better, the taste!

Connor! Squeaking and babbling while he plays. Is there any sweeter sound than your child's voice??!! And the sound of his fat little feet walking on linoleum. It is a sweet little smack smack sound! He walks so hard, and so purposefully.

Memories! Right now he is walking around with a fish net we acquired when Katie, Grammy, and I went to Tybee Island. And that memory, makes me completely happy. We had a wonderful little slice of vacation. We had an ADVENTURE! Totally unplanned and fabulous! I can't wait to do something like it again. It is so hard to be spontaneous with children. Mom, plan to be spontaneous this summer :)

Great friends! For years I have felt pretty much alone on the friend front. I had my hubby and my Katie. The rest of our family hours away, and my friends from high school and college. Sure, there were people at work. But barring the rare exception, most of those "friends" disappeared when the job did. Of the 50+ work friends, maybe 3 are still around, but they were the best 3 :) Now I have a little squad of women I consider to be true friends. And of course, I met them through Katie. Thank goodness I had the foresight to have an outgoing little girl! And like most women, I have my best friend, my Mom!

Facebook! Discovering people from long ago. Re-meeting some people. Seriously, there are some people that I would never have called "friend" in high school, but now that we are grown up with kids and lives outside of Norcross, I am happy that I get a chance to know them. And, I am a horrible communicator! I can log-in and check status updates, leave comments, and just catch up. It makes me a little less of a loner, or at least I feel like less of a loner.

Tivo! I don't get much tv time when Katie is home. We are eternally stuck in the cartoon region of satellite world. But, when she heads off to school and I just have Connor to entertain I can catch up on all of my favorite shows. Grey's Anatomy (Izzy is having an affair with her dead fiancee Denny), Lipstick Jungle (Niko wants to raise her dead husband's love child), Desperate Housewives (have not watched it yet, but I am sure it is good), and Days of Our Lives. (Sammy is falling in love with her Witness Protection guard, like we didn't see THAT one coming!)

Time alone with my hubby.

A full night of sleep in my own bed.

Right now, in this moment, that is what is making me happy.
